    So — been using this thing for something like five months now and I keep coming back, reckon I'd write something up since a lad on another thread asked me last week. Am in the UK, generally stick to footie and the horses, a fiver here and there, just so you know where I'm coming from. What got me on it was genuinely pretty stupid — I never could work out what an ew return actually was once you get five places instead of three. Basically I'd wing it and get a shock. Now I punch the numbers in before I place anything, even a simple single bet. Their single bet calculator tool is the bit I'm on daily — you drop in the price and your stake and it spits out profit and total return with no faffing, fractions or decimals. There's also the fiddly ones — doubles and trebles maths, lucky 15 and lucky 63, patents and yankees, and that's where I'd always lose track. If you fancy a poke about, it's here single betting calculator and there's no login wall, which I appreciated. The thing that actually shifted things for me were the geekier tools. There's an implied probability thing that shows how much the bookie's taking, plus a kelly staking calculator — I stick to fractional kelly since full stakes are a quick route to a dead bankroll. The dutch tool is decent when I'm splitting a race. Couple of gripes. Its layout looks very functional, let's say — not much polish, looks like it was built by someone who cares more about maths than colours. On my phone it works although the lucky 63 breakdown need a bit of scrolling. Also there's no proper app, it's a website and that's it — slight shame but worth saying. Anyway. Doesn't cost anything, no ads shoved in your face, does what it says. Anyone who honestly works out returns on a calculator app, try it — it's saved me plenty of "wait, that's it?" moments.

    Skimmed first and then went back to read carefully, and the careful read paid off in places I had missed, and a stop at qorivoline got the same treatment, the rare site whose content rewards a second pass is content I want more of in my regular rotation rather than disposable single read articles.

    Reading carefully here has reminded me what reading carefully feels like, and a look at christmasatthewindmill extended that reminder, the experience of careful reading versus skimming is different in ways I had partially forgotten and this site has clearly refreshed my memory of what attention feels like when content rewards it consistently.
